There really is nothing like the feeling you get from 'giving back'.
Volunteers are a treasured bunch for sure - and we at The Lending Cupboard always want to make sure our hard-working team are recognized and honoured on a consistent basis.
Recently, we held our annual Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue - what a great time of being together, chowing down on lots of great food and enjoying a beautiful summer day! Later on, I was reflecting on the importance of volunteers - and how their service is absolutely intrinsic to the success of so many organizations. Simply put, we just couldn't do what we do here at TLC without them.
I know from my own experience with volunteering how fulfilling it really is - the key is to find something you love and that you really believe in.
Finding the right 'fit' can take some time, and you might be surprised at what ultimately appeals to you the most. But it's worth it to keep trying until you find that place that fits you best - then you can dive in, make lots of new friends and enjoy the wonderful sense of camaraderie that volunteering really brings.
As we reach the mid-point of summer, we are certainly on the look-out for more volunteers! So I would encourage you to take a closer look at TLC if you are considering giving a few hours a week to a local charity. I can assure you that being a part of our team will bring you plenty of smiles, lots of laughs and some pretty lively discussions - and did I mention loads of irresistible treats?
Young folks are also welcome! Are you 16 or older and looking for something extra to do this summer? Join us for a shift each week and you will discover the joys of helping others. It will also likely help to shape your view of community for years to come - plus it looks great on a resume!
