It’s always so inspiring to meet a youngster who already
knows the importance of supporting his or her local community! Meet our client
Julien, who after coming in the other day to borrow a wheelchair, decided to
donate $30 to TLC! We sure appreciate your generosity, Julien!
“It actually has to do with a congenital birth defect,”
explains Julien’s mom Leita. “One of the bones in his arm is shorter than the
other.” Julien needs to wear what’s called a Taylor Spatial Frame to help,
which is slowly pulling his wrist back into the right position. The problem is,
the device is rather heavy.
“The frame is a lot bigger and heavier than we were
anticipating,” Leita explained, adding that it was also painful for Julien to
let his arm rest down at his side. A custom sling wasn’t working too well,
either. So the family came to TLC for a wheelchair, which would allow Julien to
easily rest his arm on a pillow across his lap. “It’s less painful for him and
he can be out and about doing things for longer periods of time.”
So far, so good! “He loves having the wheelchair!”
Leita said the visit to TLC was a smooth experience. “It was
awesome – they were quick to help and gave him the first wheelchair to try out
which didn’t quite work – so they quickly found another one. It was really
good!”
Ultimately, Julien, who is 10, decided to pay it forward by
donating to TLC.
“I wanted to donate so that you could have more stuff just
in case a lot of people needed something, (it would) help with not running out,”
he explained. As he pointed out, a client could end up visiting and not be able
to get the equipment that they might really need. “The money can help with
getting more equipment to help!”
We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity, Julien!
His mom is rightly proud, too!
“It’s awesome – he’s got such a big heart. He cares a lot
about others.”
